Tibetan Antelope in Changtang Start to Migrate


First batch of Tibetan Antelopes passed through Qinghai Tibet Highway, under the protection of forest police, and started their migration to the central Hohxil – Zhuonai Lake for farrowing on 12th, May.

Tibetan Antelopes mainly inhabits in Changtang Grassland of Tibet, Altun Mountains of Xinjiang, Sanjiangyuan and Hohxil of Qinghai Province. Every May, thousands of Tibetan Antelopes from above four areas migrate to Zhuonai Lake where is known as “big farrowing room.” With small young members, all the Tibetan Antelope will get back to their habitat area in August.



“From middle of May, more and more Tibetan Antelopes will join in the migration group to Zhuonai Lake area for giving birth. Patrols will pay close attention to this migaration. They will escort all the antelopes to safe area and protect Tibetan Antelopes from any threat. Once finding Tibetan Antelope crossing highway, traffic striction will be implemented.” An chief manager of Hohxil area said.

Tibet Antelopes migration is one of the most significent views along the Qinghai Tiet Railway.

  • Address monks correctly. Don’t call straightly “monk”, “heshan” and “chujiaren”. Different classes of monks, you address differently. Call common monks – “master”, the president of monastery – Abbot. 
  • Obey Buddhist manners. Don’t handshake, hug and touch monks’ head. When meeting or talking with a monk, you only need to be devout by putting hands together, or lower your head a little bit or other Buddhism gestures.
  • Talk appropriately. Don’t talk about killing, marriage, meat, etc.
  • Don’t talk loud, discuss or laugh at subjects in monasteries. Don’t move everywhere, because some rooms are not allowed to be visited. Don’t touch the relics, such as scriptures, sculptures, paintings, etc.

The Six Great Gelug Monasteries

Gelug is one of the most important sects of Tibet Buddhism. It is also called "Yellow Sect" for its monks wearing yellow hats.
